[ARCHIVED] Notary Services Update

Notary

Notary Services Policy and Fees Update - Effective August 1, 2025

Fees

Notary services are available for the following fees:

  • $5 per notarization for township residents
  • $10 per notarization for non-residents

Policies

  1. Notary services will be provided in accordance with the laws of the State of Michigan. Only Township employees who hold a valid State of Michigan Notary Commission are able to provide notary services.
  2. Notary services are available on a walk-in basis during regular Township office hours when a notary is scheduled to work, up to 15 minutes prior to closing or prior to the end of the notary’s shift.
  3. The Township cannot guarantee availability of notary services at any time; calling ahead to schedule an appointment or verify that a notary is present and available is encouraged.
  4. Only in-person notarizations will be performed. Electronic and digital notary services are not available at the Township office.
  5. Township notaries retain the right to refuse a notarial act, per MCL 55.285[8], at the Notary’s discretion.
  6. Township notaries cannot:
    1. Notarize documents that are already signed;
    2. Prepare or complete documents beyond notarizing them;
    3. Notarize documents with blank pages or spaces, other than the space for signatures;
    4. Make use of a translator to communicate with a notary services patron;
    5. Notarize the following documents:
      1. I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification forms.
      2. Naturalization forms.
      3. Documents written in any language other than English.
  7. Notaries cannot certify or notarize that a document/record is an original or true copy of another record, including birth certificates, death certificates, adoption records, or marriage licenses. In Michigan, a notary can only acknowledge the signature of the issuer or holder (person on the document) making a true copy statement on, or attached to, the document.
