City of Portage, Texas and Comstock Townships Transition to Life EMS for Ambulance Services
The City of Portage, Texas Township, and Comstock Township have all transitioned to Life EMS for the provision of designated 9-1-1 ambulance services in the respective jurisdictions. This comes after weeks of conversations with the operators of Pride Care Ambulance whereby it was determined that the company is not able to meet the conditions of its contracts with the local governments relating to staffing and ambulance readiness. The three municipalities will terminate their respective agreements with Pride Care Ambulance at 11:50 PM on March 1, 2023.
The local jurisdictions have been consulting with the Kalamazoo County Medical Control Authority, the agency responsible for coordinating and overseeing the EMS system in Kalamazoo County, to ensure a smooth transition to Life EMS.
The residents of the City of Portage and Texas and Comstock townships can feel confident about the ambulance services provided by Life EMS. Life EMS is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS), the "gold standard" of pre-hospital care. The company, which has more than 40 years of service to the West Michigan community, offers both emergency and non-emergency medical transportation services.
