On Wednesday, February 15th at 5:00 PM the Planning Department, in partnership with our consulting firm, CIB, will conduct a listening session to learn more about current riparian challenges and discuss the upcoming riparian ordinance update process. This is the first step in a lengthy process, which will also include a survey, a potential second listening session, and continued community engagement. You can participate in-person at the Township Hall, via Zoom, or you may submit written comments to planner@texastownship.org. 

The Township has been discussing the need for updates to the current ordinances since before the flooding in 2018, when groundwater and lake levels did not recede following rain events as they had in years past. Now that the Township is on the home stretch with final permitting and eventual construction of a long-term solution, the Township Board has directed the Planning Department and Planning Commission to resume work on updating current riparian ordinances to protect lakes, ponds, and streams within the Township, in addition to centralizing the ordinances for simplicity.
